Throwback Tulsa: Ground breaking ceremony of Cherokee Nation hospital in Tahlequah one year ago today

The Cherokee Nation broke ground one year ago today on a $400 million hospital that will solidify what officials described as the tribe’s health-care independence.

“We are today a tribe, an Indian nation, that has seized control of its health-care destiny,” Cherokee principal chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. told a large crowd that had gathered under a tent to watch the groundbreaking.
