2.8 Magnitude earthquake hits Kershaw County

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - An earthquake occurred around the towns of Elgin and Lugoff Saturday morning. According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), a 2.84 magnitude earthquake struck the area around Elgin and Lugoff at a depth of around 1.7 miles. This is the highest-magnitude earthquake reported in South Carolina this year, as per the SCDNR website. Inland earthquakes aren’t common in South Carolina.
