Nebraska lawmakers advance bill expanding governor's power over gaming commission

Nebraska lawmakers gave first-round approval Monday to a bill that would expand the governor's influence over the state's Racing and Gaming Commission, which has come under increased scrutiny in recent years as it regulates the state's burgeoning casino industry. Lowe's bill (LB839) would also make clear the governor has the power to remove a commissioner for "any malfeasance, misfeasance, or neglect in office" while ensuring none of the commission's seven members hold any other public office.
