California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom's office announced Thursday that it plans to tackle Oakland's crime surge by sending more attorneys to assist Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price. A press release from the governor's office stated that Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta "launch[ed] a new partnership" with Price "to increase the capacity to prosecute suspects involved in violent crimes, serious drug-related crimes, and property crimes — including retail theft and auto burglary — in Oakland and the East Bay."
