House Republicans Fail to Impeach Mayorkas Over Border Record
House lawmakers failed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who Republicans said has failed to enforce U.S. immigration laws and stop people from entering the country illegally from Mexico.
The near-party-line vote on the GOP-led measure was 214 in favor to 216 against. Mayorkas would have been the first sitting cabinet official to be impeached in the nation’s history, underscoring the fierce politics and finger pointing over immigration policy.
