Republicans' and Democrats' inability to cut a deal on border policies stems from deep-seeded ideological stances on how welcoming the U.S. should be to immigrants seeking refuge. 

Republicans say President Joe Biden’s policies are a welcome “magnet” for migrants to cross the U.S.-Mexico border and try to fast-track entry into the country.
