Whitmer signs order to transition state-owned fleet to zero-emission vehicles

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an Executive Directive on Wednesday that will transition all state-owned vehicles to zero-emission vehicles, with a goal of lowering fuel costs and reducing air pollution. In Executive Directive 2023-5, Whitmer orders all light-duty vehicles be switched to zero emission by 2033, and all medium- and heavy-duty vehicles transitioned by 2040. The directive comes shortly after Whitmer signed legislation to move the state to a 100% clean energy standard by 2040. The government committed to powering itself with 100% clean energy by 2025.
