“It’s dirty, tiring, thankless work, and you’ll never make any money doing it.” Those words, or something close, were said to me by a longtime photojournalist during the early morning hours as we stood outside Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, on Wednesday. The thermometer read 27 degrees, and the ground was covered in a heavy frost.
