Special election will fill vacant seat in Rhode Island Senate District 1

Voters in Rhode Island's Senate District 1 will fill the vacant seat in Tuesday's election.
Bissaillon is the chief of staff to the Senate president. Powell is the second vice-chair of the Rhode Island Republican Party.
The winner will succeed Sen. Maryellen Goodwin, who died in April after a battle with cancer. Goodwin held the seat for more than three decades.
The District 1 seat represents the Smith Hill area of Providence.
