Effort to censure Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib over Israel comments fails in U.S. House

Efforts to censure U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib failed in Congress on Wednesday after a bipartisan group of lawmakers voted to table the resolution.

In a 222-186 vote, with 23 Republicans voting in favor, lawmakers blocked the resolution to censure Tlaib, D-Detroit, from ever reaching the U.S. House floor. Reasons for doing so were mixed, with some citing concerns surrounding the First Amendment and others disapproving of the language used within the resolution itself.
