The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has added to its growing list of targeted tech companies: It has opened an investigation into whether ChatGPT maker OpenAI engaged in unfair or deceptive practices that caused “reputational harm” to consumers. “Describe in detail the extent to which You have taken steps to address or mitigate risks that Your Large Language Model Products could generate statements about real individuals that are false, misleading or disparaging,” the FTC said in a 20-page letter to OpenAI.
