Sunday storms leave thousands without power, including food pantry. What you should know

As the heat index approached 110 degrees Monday, the Stewpot Community Services, a Jackson food and shelter pantry, was operating with a backup generator to feed and assist people without housing after Sunday night storms knocked electricity out. Sunday's severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds, left more than 44,000 customers in the state without power Monday morning, including the Stewpot and the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport.
