North Carolina’s Fort Bragg—one of the largest military bases in the world—was renamed Fort Liberty Friday, continuing a rebranding effort by the Defense Department to rename military installations named after confederate soldiers, which was prompted by calls and protests to remove memorials to the Confederacy in 2020. Fort Bragg, named for North Carolina native and Confederate Gen. Braxton Bragg, was renamed Fort Liberty following a ceremony Friday morning, according to the Fayetteville Observer. Former Brig. Gen. Ty Seidule said the name was chosen because “liberty remains the greatest American value.”...
