Report warned of risk before Iowa apartment building collapsed

A structural engineer report warned about the deteriorating conditions of a Davenport, Iowa building mere days before it partially collapsed. The report stated parts of the building’s brick façade “appear ready to fall imminently” and are “about to topple outward.” However, city officials said Thursday that residents were not evacuated from the structure because the report — dated May 24 — indicated the building was still safe.
