The advancement of artificial intelligence could lead to the end of human existence as we know it, according to an extremely brief open letter released yesterday (May 30) and signed by big tech executives, AI scientists, academics and, somewhat incongruously, the musician Grimes. “Mitigating the risks of extinction from A.I. should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war,” the short statement reads.
