A time-honored sports tradition is to compare a current team to ones from the past. There are, as one would imagine, many fine comps for the 2023 Miami Heat, tied as the lowest seed to reach the NBA Finals. The 1978 Washington Bullets had the worst record of any NBA champion. The 2007 New York Giants were a 10-6 team that beat undefeated New England to win the Super Bowl. And our town’s very own 2011 Cardinals didn’t clinch an MLB playoff spot until the final day of the year...
