Hamline U. President Miller to retire after Islamophobia controversy

Hamline University announced Monday that President Fayneese Miller will retire after the 2023-24 school year. Miller has been president since 2015. Hamline’s full-time faculty in January urged Miller to resign over her administration’s handling of a Muslim student’s complaint about the use of ancient art depicting the Prophet Muhammad in an art history class. One Hamline administrator said it was “undeniably Islamophobic” for adjunct professor Erika Lopez Prater to have shown the art in class.
