City plans to open Portland Expo as temporary shelter for asylum seekers
City staff are planning to reopen the Portland Expo as a temporary emergency shelter for asylum seekers as soon as April 10. Portland is again seeing a wave of new asylum seekers into the city that rivals numbers reported in 2019 and is severely straining city resources. The city has welcomed 743 people since Jan. 1.
