Atmospheric rivers hit California with heavy rain and snow

After a series of unrelenting winter storms, California is forecast to see another slate of grueling weather, including heavy rain and snow to last through the weekend.

As heavy rains hit parts of the state on Friday, more than 9,000 residents were under evacuation orders, according to the Associated Press. The rain flooded major highways, roads, rivers and creeks, with several counties in the Bay Area operating under a National Weather Service flood warning in the morning through the early afternoon.
