On eve of 'Confederate Heroes Day,' Houston lawmaker launches third attempt to end it

On Thursday, the state of Texas celebrates 'Confederate Heroes Day,' as it does each year on Jan. 19 — the birthday of former Confederate commander Robert Lee. The holiday was created to honor Lee, as well as former Confederate President Jefferson Davis. It was started in 1973, consolidating separate holidays that had existed previously to celebrate Davis and Lee.
