North Korea fires two ballistic missiles within striking distance of Japan

North Korea test-fired two ballistic missiles on Sunday with enough range to strike Japan, a launch that South Korea “strongly condemned” for increasing tensions on the peninsula.

The missiles were fired off North Korea’s east coast and traveled about 311 miles at a height of 340 miles before landing in the sea between North Korea and Japan, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said. 

The pair of missiles were launched at a steep angle, South Korea’s military said, suggesting that they could have traveled farther if fired at a standard trajectory. South...
