- Since March 2020, the Department of Education has waived interest payments on federal student loans in an effort to buffer the economic impact from the coronavirus. This reprieve will last through Dec 31, 2020.
- President-elect Joe Biden has supported canceling $10,000 in student debt, doubling Pell Grants, and offering free public (state college) education to those who make under $125,000/year. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-M.A.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) are advocating for $50,000 in relief.
