US passes 200,000 deaths from COVID-19

The US has passed 200,000 deaths from COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The figure represents about one-fifth of the world’s total reported deaths from the coronavirus.

The US has recorded the most COVID-19 fatalities in the world, though was ranked ninth globally in deaths per million people as of Monday, according to Statista.

Some experts had warned of the current US death toll at the beginning of the summer — and were nearly spot-on in their timing.
