Democrats See Impeachment Votes Used Against Them in 2020 Campaigns

Most lawmakers in districts President Trump won in 2016 avoid the issue, focusing instead on legislative action.

While the impeachment inquiry into President Trump is hanging over Capitol Hill, House lawmakers in competitive districts will face targeted ads, town-hall crowds and campaign events following their votes to support opening an investigation.

Those lawmakers, especially the 31 in districts that Mr. Trump won in 2016, are taking two paths when it comes to the impeachment inquiry: explain their position or stay far away from it.
