Two people were killed and four others injured when a shooter opened fire in a classroom building Tuesday at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Campus police disarmed and apprehended the suspect, later identified by police as 22-year-old Trystan Andrew Terrell, a former student, in the room where a handgun was used to carry out the shooting.

A campus lockdown stretched late into the night at the school of more than 26,500 students, and university officials postponed final exams, which had been scheduled to begin Thursday.
