Jobs report: US economy added 156,000 jobs in September, unemployment ticked up to 5 percent

The U.S. economy added 156,000 jobs in September, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Friday.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the number is short of the additional 170,000 jobs that economists had anticipated. The report also states that since September 2015, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.6 percent.
