Obama Administration Supreme-Court Brief Backs Same-Sex Marriage

The Obama administration told the Supreme Court on Friday the Constitution requires all states to recognize same-sex marriage, ahead of the marathon argument scheduled for April 28.

Discrimination against same-sex couples sends “the inescapable message that same-sex couples and their children are second-class families, unworthy of the recognition and benefits that opposite-sex couples take for granted,“ the Justice Department said in the brief. “The bans cannot be reconciled with the fundamental constitutional guarantee of ‘equal protection of the laws.”
