Shutdown casualty: Crisis halts data lawmakers could use to solve budget

One casualty of the government shutdown is that key agencies are no longer producing exactly the kind of budget information on deficits, spending and the economy that could help inform Congress as it debates just those issues.
Neither the Congressional Budget Office or the Treasury Department will be doing their monthly budget reviews this month, meaning the final fiscal year 2013 deficit will remain a mystery, even as lawmakers spar over the taxes and spending that make up the deficit.
