What a Center Bias Rating Means

The source either does not show much media bias, displays a balance of articles with left and right biases, or equally balances left and right perspectives in its reporting.

Center doesn't mean better! A Center media bias rating does not necessarily mean a source is totally unbiased, neutral, perfectly reasonable, or credible, just as Left and Right don't necessarily mean extreme, wrong, unreasonable, or not credible. AllSides encourages people to read outlets across the political spectrum.

Additional Information

The 'PG' is the largest metropolitan daily newspaper in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since 1938, the paper has won six Pulitzer Prizes. The newspaper publishes local, sports, opinion, business, and national news articles. The Post-Gazette was founded in 1786 and is now owned by Block Communications.

In the mid 1800s, the Gazette helped organize a chapter of the new Republican Party as well as helped with the election of President Abraham Lincoln. The Post-Gazette was one of the first papers to suggest that the Northern and Southern tensions would result in a full-scale war.

Political Endorsements

In Oct. 2022, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial board endorsed Republican Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania’s Senate race. Oz was running against Democratic nominee Lt. Gov. John Fetterman. Fetterman suffered a stroke that year and had speech and cognition issues. The Post-Gazette wrote in its endorsement of Oz, "Mr. Fetterman’s health — he suffered a serious stroke in May — is not the issue. His lack of transparency, however,  in refusing to release his medical records is troubling. It suggests an impulse to conceal and a mistrust of the people. All candidates for a major elected office should release their medical records, as did Mr. Oz. If you want privacy, don’t run for public office."

The paper endorsed Republican Donald J. Trump in the 2020 election.
