NewsOne is an American online news website that delivers "original stories, diverse opinions, photos, videos and polls," all primarily targeting black and African-American audiences. The site was created in 2008 and is owned by Urban One, Inc. (formerly called Radio One), a Silver Spring, Maryland-based media conglomerate founded in 1980 by business entreprenuer and TV personality Cathy Hughes. The ninth-highest-earning African-American-owned business in the United States as of 2015, Urban One operates 55 radio stations across the country and majority-owns the syndicator Reach Media, the cable network TV One, and the digital platform Interactive One, which claims a monthly readership of 10 million. Its mission, according to NewsOne's About Us page, is to "is to embrace and positively impact the lives of African Americans."
Preliminary research shows that NewsOne has a strong left bias. Its stories often cover topics such as police violence and brutality from a progressive liberal perspective, and its opinion pieces are regularly critical of conservative figures like Donald Trump.
