Frank Bruni's AllSides Bias Rating^TM is ‘lean left’. Known for his New York Times columns on Wednesdays and Sundays, they tend to cover topics and ideas commonly identified as more 'liberal' than not. For example, his most recent, on July 15^th, 2017, was titled 'Six Long Months of President Trump'. Here, he not only refers to Trump's "lidless grandiosity, the bottomless vulgarity, the lies atop lies upon lies.' Bruni claims the president has "altered the postwar framework" with his rollback of the Paris Climate Agreement, his opposition to immigration, and his isolationist trade preferences. Bruni's characterization of these opinions reveals his underlying bias, especially as climate change is currently such a clear indicator of ideology. 

Background

Starting out at The Detroit Free Press, Frank Bruni served as a war correspondent, a chief move critic, and religion writer. Bruni then began a long-time New York Times career, starting there in 1995. Since then he has served in many roles from a White House correspondant to a chief restaurant critic. He's also been a staff writer for the Time Magazine, as well as the Rome bureau chief. In addition to his articles, he is the author of three bestselling books: Ambling into History (2002), Born Round (2009), and Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be (2015), in addition to a cookbook, written with New York Times colleague, Jennifer Steinhauer, released in 2017 - A Meatloaf in Every Oven. Since 2011, Bruni has contributed twice-weekly op-ed columns to the publication, making him The New York Times' first openly gay person in this role.
