The Bridge Alliance Rated Lean Left in June 2021 Independent Review

AllSides shifted The Bridge Alliance's rating from Mixed to Lean Left in June 2021 following an independent review by AllSides editors, particularly after reviewing BA's Twitter feed. The team determined that BA was engaging in advocacy around voting issues, such as retweeting petitions to support and to fight voter suppression, a term and issue typically focused on more by those on the left. BA did not showcase arguments against these campaigns or present viewpoints from the other side. Some examples include Bridge Alliance retweeting  a campaign to reform Missouri's government, a petition to support the For The People Act (which would implement automatic voter registration, online voter registration and same-day registration for national elections), and a campaign advocating for vote at home ballots and other election reforms. BA also retweeted a promotion of a briefing inviting people to "learn more about the Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA) and learn more about how they can take action to support this important legislation." BA did not include arguments against any of these initiatives.

AllSides noted that a panel The Bridge Alliance held with The Fulcrum on election reforms included 6 people, all from the left, despite it being presented as a bipartisan group. Important points on the other side of the election reform debate were not mentioned (such as that over three fourths of Americans, including black Americans, think that voter ID is a reasonable safeguard, or the US history of ballot stuffing by partisan groups).

Bridge Alliance also has a focus on equity efforts, including holding a "Justice Opportunity Diversity Inclusion and Equity (JODIE) Webinar Series." Equity is an issue of sharp debate among the left and right, and equity efforts are typically more supported by those on the left than on the right. See the AllSides Red Blue Dictionary definition of equity to understand how the left and right see equity differently.
