About Babylon Bee (Humor)'s Bias Rating

Babylon Bee (Humor) is a news media source with an AllSides Media Bias Rating™ of Lean Right.

The Babylon Bee's About page includes a humorous description of the site:

"the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all its truth claims. We write satire about Christian stuff, political stuff, and everyday life. The Babylon Bee was created ex nihilo on the eighth day of the creation week, exactly 6,000 years ago. We have been the premier news source through every major world event, from the Tower of Babel and the Exodus to the Reformation and the War of 1812. We focus on just the facts, leaving spin and bias to other news sites like CNN and Fox News. If you would like to complain about something on our site, take it up with God. Unlike other satire sites, everything we post is 100% verified by Snopes.com."

Retrieved Oct. 7, 2020 4:51 pm EST The Babylon Bee was founded in 2016. Its content focuses on Christianity and other religions, as well as current events and politics, and has occasionally been subjected to Snopes.com fact-checks. The Babylon Bee also runs NotTheBee.com and an accompanying Instagram account, It's Not the Bee, which calls itself "a humor-based news, opinion, and entertainment site from the creators of The Babylon Bee and Disrn. Like the name suggests, it'll feature some absurd and hilarious (but real) news that seems like it should definitely be satire. It'll also have opinions, videos, personalities, memes, viral stuff, and more."

Babylon Bee Rated Lean Right in Aug. 2020 Editorial Review

During an August 2020 Editorial Review of Babylon Bee, the AllSides team was in universal agreement that the site has a Lean Right bias. The Babylon Bee is transparent about its bias, calling itself “your trusted source for Christian news satire.”

The Babylon Bee typically pokes fun at current events from a right-leaning perspective, satirizing socialism, left-wing politicians and leftist activist movements. But right-wingers aren’t off limits at the Bee. A team member with a Center bias noted the Babylon Bee “makes fun of Trump’s oafishness as a person, they don’t make fun of Trump’s policies or decisions, just how he presents himself.” Another team member with a Lean Left bias noted the Babylon Bee Bee is “consistently right, not in a way that is super vicious or malicious or polarizing toward the left. From a left perspective, I can look at this and think it’s hilarious.” Examples of headlines pulled from the Babylon Bee on the day of the Editorial Review that displayed a Lean Right bias included: State Hailed As Progressive Hub Of Technological Innovation Can't Figure Out How To Keep The Lights On [Featuring a photo of San Francisco] Oops!
