House passes VA reform compromiseThe House overwhelmingly passed Wednesday a reform bill for the Department of Veterans Affairs, sending the compromise plan to the Senate in an effort to finish the bill before leaving on a month-long vacation at the end of the week.
Lawmakers approved the plan to cut down on wait times 420-5, signaling that the eagerness to care for veterans outweighed the almost $17 billion price tag — $10 billion of which would be tacked onto the deficit, according to a Congressional Budget Office estimate.

House approves VA reform billThe House on Wednesday approved legislation 420-5 to drastically reform the Department of Veterans Affairs.
In a strong bipartisan vote, lawmakers backed the $17 billion compromise bill crafted by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.). The Senate is expected to sign off on the legislation later this week.
