Divisive

This term has come to be used in interesting and powerful ways in American political discourse. On one hand, clearly some individuals or groups are genuinely divisive - trying to "stir people up."  On the other hand, this word has increasingly been used in attempts to silence certain individuals as well. When one socio-political figure or community finds another’s practices or beliefs as offensive or unsettling, often they accuse that community or individual or being “divisive.”
